“An unspoiled river is a very rare thing in this Nation today. Their flow and vitality have been harnessed by dams and too often they have been turned into open sewers by communities and by industries. It makes us all very fearful that all rivers will go this way unless somebody acts now to try to balance our river development.” -President Lyndon Johnson’s remarks on signing the Wild & Scenic Rivers Act, October 2, 1968

The St. Croix Conservation Collection is established in a dedicated physical space within the St. Croix Falls Public Library. The Collection is developed in partnership between the Gaylord Nelson Estate, Walter Mondale, St. Croix Falls Public Library, St. Croix Scenic Coalition and St. Croix Scenic Byway.

The Collection will expand public access to information relating to the St. Croix River Valley and establish the Library as a clearing house for digital and print information relevant to the river valley, and useful to those working to protect the river valley heritage, landscape, and scenic integrity.

Users of the St. Croix Collection will have access to historical documents and images, archival political material, policy documents, scientific research and relevant databases. The result is information necessary to know the River, interact with the River, and protect the River — collected in one space and managed by people experienced in and dedicated to conservation and advocacy.
